A vibrant fashion industry is a panacea to ending the increasing graduate unemployment in the country, Chairman of Radford University College, Nana Dwomoh Sarpong has said.

According to him, investment in the industry is an avenue for job opportunities and help to position Ghana on the global fashion platform.

This, Nana Dwomoh noted will attract more tourists into the country and lead to an expansion of the revenue base of the economy.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the Radford Graduates Fashion Show over the weekend at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

The event saw graduates from the Fashion and Design Department of the University showing their latest collections and designs.

Samples of their designs were modelled to the admiration of guests who gathered at the Kempinski for the event.

It ranges from corporate, casual and African wear, to wedding gowns innovatively designed with colourful fabrics.

The annual fashion show Nana Dwomoh Sarpong noted is a way of demonstrating their talents and readiness for the job market.

He said the Ghanaian youth have the passion for pursuing ventures in fashion but lack financial support and this has militated against their efforts to succeed in the industry.

Nana Dwomoh Sarpong called on government to support any policy that would be championed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to accelerate the growth of the industry.

Also, Head of Fashion at Radford University, Yvonne Ntiamoah bemoaned the lack of support of fashion in the country.

She said fashion can be a foreign exchange earner for Ghana is an investment is made in the industry.

“The fashion industry is a huge market, economically very viable for Ghana, if we can grow and develop this industry, we can use it to develop this country,” Ntiamoah added.
