The long wait is finally over!
After ploughing through precisely 632 submissions and reviewing the music industry’s work in 2019, Charterhouse had released its nominees’ list for 21 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
For the biggest awards on the night Artiste of the Year, two artistes nominated last year, Kuame Eugene and Sarkodie, found their name on the list again.
Since the VGMA ban for Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale is still in place, the duo’s names did not make it in this years’ nominees list.
Newbie and Empawa artiste J.Derobie made it on the Reggae/Dancehall song of the year with his song Poverty and also made it on the Reggae/Dancehall artiste of the year.
Charterhouse also introduced a new category, International Collaboration of the Year, which focuses on works of musician that have foreign artistes on them.
KiDi’s Cinderalla, Sarkodie’s Lucky, Medikal’s Father and Kwesi Arthur’s Nobody are some of the songs that have been featured on it.
The list was announced hourly on February 29 from 11 am to 4 pm on some selected ration stations and online platforms.
Twenty-one categories were unveiled during this hourly announcements, the rest were revealed at the announcement party taking place at the La Beach Hotel at 7 pm later that day.
Unsung Artiste of the year, Vodafone Most Popular song of the year, Album of the Year, Best International Collaboration of The Year and Artiste of the Year were among categories whose nominees were announced at the party.
