Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has inspected the 7.3 million euro expansion works on the Gushiegu District Hospital, which is due for completion by December, this year.
The project, which is replicated in Begoro and Sogakope comprises a center pavilion, three wards for males, females and children, kitchen, laundry, doctors' bungalows, nursing quarters and a temporary accommodation facility for people accompanying patients.
The expansion works also include a mortuary, public toilet, incinerators and transformer house and a security post.
Vice President Mahama was at Gushiegu, in the Northern region as part of his four-day official visit to the region, as well as the Upper East region.
He expressed satisfaction about the quality of works and urged the contractors to strive to complete the project ahead of schedule.
The Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris said the ruling New Patriotic Party, had bridged the development gap between the Southern part of the country and the North.
He announced that the government is proposing a sports stadium for Gushiegu.
Vice President Mahama earlier interacted with the chiefs of Nanton, Tampion and Gushiegu, where he appealed to them to live in peace and unity in order to attract more development projects.
He assured the Nanton-Naa, Alhaji Sulley Alhassan that the area would get their quota of the multi-million-dollar Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) being extended by the US to Ghana.
