A number of roads in the Eastern Corridor of the country, including the Jasikan-Yendi road would soon be tarred to facilitate business and commerce, Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama announced this on Tuesday.
He said government was also extending loans and other financial packages to entrepreneurs to facilitate wealth and job creation.
Vice President Mahama made this known, when he addressed a rally at Agbogbloshie in the Odododiodo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, in his bid to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)to retain power, come 2008.
He asked the traders to establish a common platform to raise the prerequisite premium to insure their wares against fire and other disasters in order to sustain their businesses.
Vice President Mahama asked them to keep the environment clean to rid the national capital of malaria and other communicable diseases that cost the State huge amount of money and development.
He expressed concern about the rising incidence of armed robbery and asked the traders to support the law enforcing agencies to nip in the bud such anti-social activities.
He said law and order was necessary to govern the activities of the traders, many of who were not Accra indigenes, so that they could generate wealth in a conducive atmosphere to support development at home.
Vice President Mahama appealed to them to support the education of their children in order to facilitate the fight against poverty.
He lauded the traders for forging peaceful co-existence despite the cultural diversity of the country and asked them to sustain the national aspiration to promote prosperity.
Touching on his bid to lead the NPP in Election 2008, Vice President Mahama said he had the ability to unite Ghanaians of all shades and attract floating voters to ensure a resounding victory for NPP.
Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, parliamentary candidate of the NPP for Odododiodo said it was only Vice President Mahama who had enough experience to bring development and progress to Ghanaians.
