The White Chapel store in the central business district of Accra could be put up for auction if its management fails to pay up 2.4 billion cedis the company owes the Value Added Tax Service.
The store was sealed off earlier this month for non payment of taxes but the management took off the VAT Service’s seal and resumed the sale of its merchandise shortly before Christmas.
The illegal action by the company got VAT officials in the company of law enforcement agents back to the store to arrest the Chief Executive of the Company Dan Ofori.
Workers of the company and some onlookers however resisted the arrest and in the process allegedly assaulted the police officers who tried to arrest the CEO.
A Revenue Officer from the VAT Service Henry Sam told Joy business report that the service will not relent in its efforts to recover monies owed the Service and that could include auctioning the outfit.
