The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) Health Club on Saturday organised a health walk to sensitise its members and the public on the need to stay healthy for national development.
The 12-kilometre walk, which marked the club's first anniversary celebration was participated by other keep fit clubs within Accra Metropolitan Area.
It was under the theme "Ghana @ 50: Let's Stay Healthy For The Next 50 years."
Dr John Ofosu-Anim, Out-going President of the club told the Ghana News Agency after the walk that "We have a busy work schedule that makes it difficult for us to have other extra curricular activities but as lecturers we must keep fit to have sound minds and healthy bodies to teach effectively".
He said the ultimate aim of the Health Walk was to release stress and establish network among themselves and the other fit clubs.
Dr Ofosu-Anim noted that most people had been afflicted with diseases like, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, which could be prevented because they were caused by changes in lifestyles.
He called for adoption of healthy lifestyle, including positive eating habits and exercises.
Dr Kodzo Gavua, In-coming President was optimistic that club would grow from strength to strength.
He urged the public to cultivate the habit of exercising to stay healthy and attain high level of excellence in their lives and for the nation.
