An alumnus of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Rashid Ibrahim, has filed a court injunction seeking to halt the investiture of the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kweku Mensah Mawutor.
The ceremony, scheduled for Friday, 27th December, has been called into question following allegations surrounding Professor Mawutor’s academic promotion.
In his writ of summons, Mr Ibrahim contends that Professor Mawutor’s promotion to Associate Professor was defective and without merit.
According to him, this wrongful promotion renders Professor Mawutor ineligible to assume the role of Vice-Chancellor.
Mr Ibrahim is, therefore, challenging the legitimacy of the appointment, arguing that the selection process is fundamentally flawed.
As part of his legal action, Mr Ibrahim has requested the court to impose an injunction on the investiture ceremony.

He believes this step is necessary to prevent what he describes as the formalisation of an unqualified appointment to the university’s highest office.
The UPSA Registrar has officially been served with the court documents, leaving the institution awaiting further legal proceedings.
The situation has sparked interest within the academic community, with many observing how the court’s decision could impact the university’s leadership and governance.
