The Lawra District in the Upper West Region will by September this year get two health training schools to enable it train more health personnel.
The training schools will be Midwifery Training Centre and Health Assistants Training School (HATS) at Nandom and Lawra hospitals respectively.
Mr Samson Abu, Lawra District Chief Executive (DCE), announced this at an annual performance review of the Lawra District Hospital last Thursday.
The training schools, when completed, would help address the problem of inadequate health staff faced by the district in particular and the region as a whole, he noted.
Mr Abu commended the Lawra District Health Directorate for organizing the forum, which brought together various stakeholders in the health sector to take stock of successes chalked, identify challenges and chart a new way towards ensuring quality health delivery.
The DCE assured them of the Assembly's total support and urged them never to relent in their efforts to ensure quality health delivery.
Dr Sebastian Sandaare, the District Health Director of Health Services thanked the Assembly for its support and urged them to continue to do more as the health sector is still confronted with numerous challenges.
He listed malaria, skin diseases; diarrhea, malnutrition and infectious diseases such as Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS as a challenges facing the hospital, adding that risky lifestyles such as chronic alcoholism, hypertension and diabetes were also taking centre stage in the disease burden of the district.
Dr Sandaare commended stakeholders for their increasing collaboration with the hospital, which he said was helping to address some of the challenges.
He noted that the filth in the Lawra locality is causing several sicknesses among its inhabitants and urged stakeholders to come together to put measures in place to improve the situation.
