The constituency executive committee of the National Democratic Congress in the Upper Manya Krobo District led by Chairman Alhaji Moro Yakubu has distanced itself from a press conference seeking to force President Mahama to nominate the MP for the area as a Minister.
The executives also condemned the party activists who are falsely parading themselves as branch youth executives of the party for a organising press conference at the constituency office in support of Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer as their preferred choice for the position of District Chief Executive without prior approval from the party hierarchy.
Speaking to the media, the constituency executives opined that even though they would welcome and endorse the president's appointment of Bismark Tetteh Nyarko as a minister, they are against attempts to cajole the president into taking such a decision.
The constituency organiser, James Djornorbua stated that the constituency executive committee with the endorsement of the constituency chairman Moro Yakubu trusts in the ability of the appointing authority to resort to due process in making all appointments. This, he said will make every member of the party accept whoever is appointed for any role.
" In fact, we'll be more than happy to see President Mahama appoint our MP as a minister, he's worked tirelessly over the years as an MP and a staunch member of the party and ought to be recognised but to make such requests and align it with the appointment of Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer as DCE is out of place," he stated.
The constituency Deputy Secretary, Enoch Komesuor wondered why the group aligned to the DCE aspirant would go against laid down procedures in pursuit of their ambitions. He further called on Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer to call on his supporters to refrain from actions that will disturb the unity of the party in the constituency.
"The appointment of someone to the position of a DCE is the sole prerogative of the president. The party had put into motion processes to assess the capabilities of the persons seeking to hold or man these offices so let's not be seen to be doing what will eventually cause division in the party after the announcement of any of the aspirants," he said.
An executive member, Seidu Abubakari Salifu, told the media "It is normal for people to struggle for political positions but we shouldn't conduct ourselves in a manner that will be detrimental to the party".
The youth group aligned to Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer, an aspirant for the DCE position in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region issued a passionate appeal to President John Mahama and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fulfill electoral promises made during the 2024 campaign by considering the nomination of the Member of Parliament Bismark Tetteh Nyarko as a Deputy Minister.
At a press conference held at Asesewa on Saturday 22nd February, 2025, the group alleged that during the 2024 election campaigns, the NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and President John Dramani Mahama assured the people of Upper Manya Krobo that their Member of Parliament would be considered for a ministerial position.
On the appointment of the District Chief Executive (DCE), the group at the same press conference threw their weight behind Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer as their preferred candidate for the DCE position. They went further to point out that, they will accept no other person appointed to the DCE position other than their preferred candidate.
Three persons including Evans Srenyame, a Human Resource Officer with the Ghana Education Service and a former constituency youth organizer and current, member of the party's eastern regional youth working committee, Ibrahim Mohammed, the party's Zongo caucus coordinator and Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer, the communications officer of the party in the constituency are being considered for appointment of the DCE for the area.
