The Unilever Ghana Foundation has formally winded up its operations.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Andrew Quayeson, noted that "the winding up of Unilever is in line with the strategy of Global Unilever to centralize the operations of its social projects and initiatives across the world to tackle global environmental and health challenges such as climate change, plastic waste and Covid-19 pandemic."
Speaking at the ceremony held on Tuesday at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, said though the Foundation is closing down, "it is, however, my hope that the Global Foundation will continue to support and take to a higher level the impactful initiatives undertaken by the local Foundation."

Taking his turn at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Unilever Ghana, George Owusu Ansah said the Foundation has lived up to its expectation and are proud of its exploits since its inception.
"...I must confess that what I have seen, read, heard said about the Foundation, leave me convinced that Unilever Ghana made the right decision, at the time, to set up the Foundation," he said.
He added that he has no doubts that its abled Board of Trustees would have carried on with the Foundation's good works for the benefit of Ghanaians when given the opportunity.

Mr George Owusu Ansah also assured that Unilever Ghana PLC's commitment towards lending a hand in support of the development process in the country remains unwavering.
He added that as they close down, Unilever Foundation has developed a new 'compass' to serve as a guide to do more good in the country.
"This new compass offers us the blueprint for advancing our sustainability activities in the country which are; to improve the health of the planet, improve people's health, confidence and wellbeing and to contribute to a fairer, more socially inclusive world" he said.

He indicated that the Foundation "is seeking to expand the Shakti project launched in the Upper West Region in 2018 to derived areas of the country for the benefit of more women and families."
The Managing Director of Unilever Ghana PLC further thanked the Chairman and Trustees of Unilever, both past and present, for their dedication over the past 20 years of service.
