Unemployed in court for stealing GT Cables

An unemployed man was on Tuesday remanded in police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing and burning Ghana Telecom cables valued at GH¢ 1,900. Ofori Abbey pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft and he is to re-appear on September 4, 2007. Chief Inspector B. Y. Dadzie told the court that at about 0130 hours on August 15, 2007, Police Sergeant Emmanuel Larbi, leader of a patrol team saw Abbey at the Osu Ringway Estate burning a number of Ghana Telecom cables. Chief Inspector Dadzie said when Abbey was confronted and asked how he came by the cables; he told the Police that he stole them from a Ghana Telecom Pole at Ringway Estate. Abbey took the Police to the GT pole from which he cut the cables. Source: GNA
