The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) has unveiled a six-stamp collection to commemorate World Sustainable Transport Day, celebrated annually on November 26.
This initiative highlights the pivotal role of sustainable transport systems in fostering economic growth, enhancing social well-being, and strengthening global cooperation and trade.
Celebrating Transportation Milestones
This year’s observance coincides with the 60th anniversary of the world’s first high-speed train, the Tokaido Shinkansen.
Known as the “bullet train,” it began operations between Tokyo and Osaka on October 1, 1964, shortly before the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Transport choices—whether by car, plane, ferry, bike, scooter, or public transit—significantly impact carbon emissions.
Promoting sustainable and inclusive transport systems can drive social and economic development, mitigate environmental harm, and improve the quality of life for all.
