Ukraine is taking steps to address the challenges faced by African students whose education was disrupted by the ongoing war, according to Maksym Subkh, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa.
In an interview, Mr. Subkh revealed that Ukraine has requested detailed information from African governments to identify and assist affected students individually.
“We want to reach out to all students, one at a time, and address their specific concerns,” he said.
While acknowledging that it may not yet be safe for all students to return to Ukraine, he noted that some provinces remain secure, making it possible for certain students to resume their studies.
Ukraine is particularly focused on helping medical students who are unable to continue their education online.
The government is actively exploring solutions to enable these students to complete their training.
A key concern, Mr. Subkh added, is the inability of students to receive their certificates, a challenge Ukraine is working tirelessly to resolve.
The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasised Ukraine’s commitment to supporting African students and ensuring they can continue their education despite the hardships caused by the conflict.
