A UK court has sentenced 22-year-old Ghanaian, David Quartey, to life imprisonment for murdering Dr. Victoria Anyetei, also a Ghanaian.
Quartey after three weeks of trial was found guilty for murdering the Ghanaian pediatrician who is also based in London.
The jury on Thursday, delivered their ruling after three days of deliberations.
In August last year, Dr. Anyetei was found dead in her car with multiple stab wounds, prompting investigations into the matter. Read first reports of her murder at this link.
Relatives of Dr. Anyetei say they are happy with the judgment, explaining that though the sentence would not bring back the slain mother, justice has at least been served.
“Dr. Anyetei is a likeable person a devoted Christian and would dearly be missed,” volunteered a family member, Leon Khartey in an interview with Joy News.
Leon Khartey said Quartey became a family friend after Dr. Anyetei had treated his (Quartey) sister at the Korle bu Teaching Hospital.
Before her death, Dr. Anyetei was acting as the guardian of David Quartey in London.
London Police had suspected she may have been stabbed to death in her car by an angry parent or a disgruntled patient.
Her body was discovered by her 19-year-old son, Andrew Thompson in her silver Toyota Avensis in a cul-de-sac in Teynham Road, Dartford, Kent, at 10.20am on August 14 last year.
The 53-year-old Ghanaian's killer, who stabbed her all over her body in what police said was a "frenzied" attack, may have been laying in wait for her inside the vehicle when she left for work at 8am, according to the police.
