Ghana's Black Maidens qualified for the quarter-finals of the ongoing Under-17 Fifa Word Cup after taming a German opposition 1 - Nil.

An inscription on the FIFA U-17 jersey said 'live your goals' - something the Black Maidens did - leaving their German models to 'dread their misses'.

Swift, purposeful, fearless, the Black Maidens knocked the shocks out of a German team known for actually owning the qualities of their little known rivals.

The Black Maidens hit the bar, low and high, stretched the keeper, sometimes denied by luck than by German effort  - until a well-regulated header sneaked past a fully stretched keeper on the 43rd minute.

The Germans and European champions, would have started the game keeping in mind the poor history of Ghana's porous games against European opposition.

So they kept at it - plying their trade on the wings with routine confidence.  Three good chances were matched with three good clearances.

A player from Germany saw her effort zoom in on the target on the 11th minute except for a brilliant Adam's save.  And she did that on the 16th and 21st and 27th minute too. Agambilla and Issaka were booked for a rough challenge - and a possible red card lurked on their heads afterwards.

But the maidens nonetheless were looking very assured on the ball. Selling the Germans their own version of football - Physical, very physical - possessive and purposeful. Their passes found a teamate regularly. And they hardly looked uncertain when constructing attacks.

A Ghanaian attacker stretched the opposition keeper, Brandt, just inches outside the box with a long-ranger to signal the Germans - we can serve you your own brand. And they repeated it on the 24 and 25th and 38th minute.

Ghana's Lily Niber Lawrence  after dribbling two or more German players and with only the keeper to beat, couldn't ignite a shot or ignite the fans, after ruffling the begging ball under her legs for a German defender to clear in huge relief.

It became clear to both teams, any goal would be crucial. But even more clearly to the Germans, the black maidens had  steel and zeal worth respecting.

"There is some real promise here in the players" the commentator said

Half way in the first half, it was Ghana - clearing, challenging and creating as the brave maidens searched for a killer pass, a freekick, a cross or a costly German error - and a freekick close to the corner broke the deadlock.

Despite a crowded penalty box, Amfobea directed her header floating above the players and stealthly planted it past goalkeeper Brandt.

Setting off a pretty lonely Ghanaian celebration as the Germany-backing spectators watched in bitter disbelief.

The Germans returned with determination, the Ghanaians with desire. Jealous in protecting their  opener and showing an appetite for one more when they dared forward.

"The problem with the Germans is that they get caught on the counter attack", a commentator said.

15 attempts at goal against 10 from the Maidens by the 70th minute.

A 40-metre free-kick from Ghana’s Niber Lawrence dipped at the last moment, rattling a pretty busy crossbar on the 51st minute. The German responded like chess - getting their effort saved and a neat 53rd minute cross plucked out of play like a neatly erased dot.

Freigang came on as Wildak jogged off, panting. She would be thanking her coach for noticing she was out of breath, wits and hope against a defiant defence that foiled attacks like a wicked teacher breaking up a child's joy with a toy.

Another substitution on the 76th minute with Sanders stepping in for Walking and literally stepping up a German onslaught. A sturdy Ghanaian outfit suddenly found themselves under German siege.

Freigang, the substitute, sneaked behind her marker, dived to meet a cross and another capable German attempt repeated three times in three minutes forced Adams into saves. She was not lucky. She is talented -something the match evaluation team noticed when they awarded her player of the match.

The German coach Anouschka Bernand stood by the touchline with hands on hips, peering into the field for her 'erueka' moment.

"Germany are not enjoying this..."I don't think she can believe it. despite work[ing] the goal keeper well", an excited commentary went.

They had finished their changes by the 75th minute. Ghana had made only one substitution within  the same period - a first half unexpected substitution with Adomako replacing Abdul- Rahman on the 34th minute.

Coach Adotey's ladies appeared either better suited for the Costa Rican weather or were just much fitter. The Germans panted despite an attacking advantage, while the Black Maidens concentrated with sweat shinning off their dark faces.

When a German attacker served an 84th minute danger, the Ghanaians retaliated with a potentially heart-breaking 90th minute shot.

Coach Adotey made a change more inspired by time-wasting than by tactical acumen as Kuzagbe came on for Adomako on the 90th minute.

The Germans opted for long range shots proving very effective if Adams was not pushing or pawing them off.

A beautiful Ghanaian dummy on a German player drew the most visible sign of frustration of the European champions, until the referee flickered out any hope of a comeback with a final whistle, endorsing Ghanaian fearlessness as wining the day.
