The Nsawam Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded two accused persons, Hayford Akwetia and Margaret Ntow, a farmer and a trader into prison custody for assaulting two police officers.
Akwetia and Ntow pleaded not guilty when they were put before the court and they are to reappear on April 12, 2007.
Two other accomplices, Joyce Akuffo and Abena are at large.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Cosmos told the court, presided over by Mrs Elizabeth Ankumah that Akwetia and two other accomplices who are at large were involved in a stealing case pending at Nsawam Police Station and the police were searching to arrest them.
Inspector Cosmos said on March 27, this year, whilst Ghana and Brazil were playing their friendly football match Akwetia and one other accomplice were spotted watching television.
He told the court that Detective Sergeant Francis Dornyo and Lance Corporal Samuel Dei the complainants in the case were detailed to effect their arrest but upon seeing the police, the accused persons took to their heels.
The Police gave them a chase and Akwetia who was armed with a knife struggled with the Police and inflicted wounds on them whilst the rest of the accused persons in whose house Akwetia was arrested assisted in assaulting the Police with clubs.
