The Police on Friday arrested two residents of Kukuom in the Asunafo South District of Brong Ahafo for possessing fake currency amounting to GH¢350.00.
The suspects, Alfred Kumah, a 24 year-old farmer and Emmanuel Asare, 23, a driver have been placed in custody pending investigations.
The fake currency was in different denominations: three GH¢50 notes, nine GH¢20 notes and two GH¢10 notes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Robert Ayalingo, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, confirmed the story to journalists at Sunyani.
He said that on September 27 this year, Kofi Asare left his shop at Kukuom in the care of his 13-year-old daughter.
DCP Ayalingo said at about 4:30pm that day, Kumah sent Sofo with fake GH¢10 currency note to buy canned malt drink from the shop.
The Regional Police Commander said that at about 7:00pm the same day, Kumah again sent Rahida Mohammed to the same shop to buy canned malt drink with fake GH¢10 note.
DCOP Robert Ayalingo said when Rahida was asked where he got the fake money she mentioned the name of Kumah.
The Regional Police Commander said when Kumah was arrested and searched, two GH¢50 fake notes and one GH¢20 note, all suspected to be fake currency, were found in his pocket.
DCOP Ayalingo said upon interrogation, Kumah said the fake notes were given to him by Emmanuel Asare and led the police to arrest him.
He added when police searched Asare’s room one GH¢50 note and eight GH¢20.00 notes bearing the same serial number were found.
