Two workers at Circuit ‘B’ in Accra have been arraigned before a Circuit Court for allegedly stealing over 370 million cedis and $15,000 respectively being money paid by litigants and revenue collected on behalf of the state.
According to facts available, Kweku Mensah is an accountant but works as a cashier and Doreen Love Akwetey, an assistant registrar and also a deputy to the first accused.
Some months ago an audit team was tasked to look into the court and in the process, it was discovered that the amount mentioned above could not be accounted for by the two accused persons.
When the accountant got the information that he had been implicated in the audit work, he vacated his post unceremoniously and went into hiding but was later arrested from his hideouts.
During the cause of investigations, Kweku Mensah mentioned the second accused as an accomplice in the stealing of the funds.
The presiding judge, Her Honourable Elizabeth Adusei, granted both of them bail of 100 million cedis with a surety to be justified.
