The Police in Tamale have arrested two persons for allegedly concealing 30 kilogrammes of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in five loud speakers.
The suspects, Salifu Danjuma, 18, and Salifu Abudu, 30, who Police claimed were sending leaves suspected to be Indian hemp to Ala Bar in Kumasi, were arrested at the Aboabo Lorry Park in Tamale.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, told the Daily Graphic that the suspects were about to board a Kurnasi-bound bus with the items when the loading boys at the lorry station allegedly sensed a pungent smell akin to that of marijuana as they were loading the five speakers into the booth of the bus.
According to Chief Inspector Tetteh, the loading boys deliberately delayed the bus and hinted the police. Two plain-clothed policemen were then dispatched to the lorry station and the suspects were apprehended after they had tried to resist arrest.
The PRO said when they were searched; it was found out that they had two screw drivers on them.
When the police unscrewed the speakers, they found in them the wrapped dried leaves.
The suspects are currently in police custody pending further investigations.
Chief Inspector Tetteh said the suspects would soon be put before court charged with possessing narcotics.
