Twenty members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Mpraeso constituency led by its former treasurer, Mr George Asiamah, have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on behalf of the defectors at a rally at Kwahu Praso, Mr Asiamah said since they joined the NDC for many years now they have seen no meaningful change in their lives.
"The development projects being initiated by the government are an indication that the NPP government can effect a positive change in their living standard," he noted.
He said the tarring of the Fodoa to Kwahu Praso road, construction of schools, introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the rule of law in the country showed that President John Agyekum Kufuor had love and vision for the country.
Mr Asiamah, who has been the Assembly Member for the town for the past 16 years, said he would continue to spread the good message of the NPP government for other NDC members in the area to join the NPP.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, commended the defectors for their bold decision and advised them to unite and support the government's policies and programmes to enhance the country's development.
The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Nana Onwona Asante, said the national youth employment programme, the capitation grant and the school-feeding programme are efforts to eradicate poverty.
he Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Mr Aninakwa Asante, welcomed the defectors and urged them to explain the policies of the party to other NDC members in the constituency.
