On Friday, only a little over one-hundred out of over a thousand students of Tumu Senior School in the Upper West Region, were left in the school.
The rest, according to the Sisala East Municipal Chief Executive Karim Nayuo, had absconded.
The students are on the run from police after they vandalised school property.
The students, angered that their mobile phones had been seized by the school authorities, vandalised the louvers and doors of a three-unit classroom block in the school.
They also stormed the Headmaster’s residence, the Senior Housemaster’s and also visited terror on the residences on other members of staff.
The MCE told Joy News that the students destroyed property like televisions and others.
Two of the miscreants have been arrested by the police while the rest are on the run.
Mr. Nayuo said when his team arrived to engage the students, most of them had fled for fear of being arrested.
“We only met some of the innocent ones,” he said.
The MCE said the students have been urged to return to campus for a resolution of the issue.
