Trouble brews in Abuakwa North NPP

The Daily Guide says trouble is brewing in the New Patriotic Party at Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region as party activists and students' groups have demanded the resignation of all the executive members of the party in the constituency. The party activists have cited inefficiency, non account¬ability and the sinking image of the party in the constituency as the reasons for their action. At a press briefing at Tafo, the spokesperson of the group, Mr Dennis Oware popularly known as Okapi said the constituency executives as well as the MP have not done anything to consolidate the gains made by Nana Akufo-Addo when he was the MP for the area from 1996-2004 before the constituency was divided but were only thinking about their personal interests. According to the activists, the constituency has not seen any development in the past three years and that the only ongoing projects are the Old Tafo-Anyinasin road and electrification of the Tontro and Nobi areas which were projects initiated by Nana Akufo-Addo. "There has not been a single party activity in the constituency in the past three years and no attempt has been made by the chairman and his executive members to recruit people to join the party," the activists charged. According to them, more people wanted to join the party but were being frustrated by the executive members, and that one cannot get party cards to register for the party. The spokesperson said the chairman has been running the constituency office from Kyebi where he resides, and completely neglected the party office at Kukurantumi which was furnished with computers and office equipment by a party man before the 2004 elections. They said the party chairman has refused to account for a corn mill donated by Prof Mike Ocquaye and a television set provided by the party's flagbearer. The activists have therefore called on the national officers to organise an emergency congress in the constituency for them to elect more competent people to run the party. Source: The daily Guide
