The National School Feeding (NSF) Coordinator, Dr Gertrude Quashigah has called on caterers working under the programme to ensure that the school children are fed with nutritious meals.
Dr Quashigah gave this advice when she visited some schools in the Volta region where final year students will be receiving one hot meal each day until they complete their exit exams.
"It is very important that you treat these children as your own and to forget about the profit you would make today. Rather, look up to God for blessings," Dr Mrs Quashigah said.
She added that doing so would especially benefit children who came from poor homes.
She was accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, his deputy, as well as the Regional Coordinator for the School Feeding Program.
The NSF Coordinator called for a holistic effort at making sure that whatever is prepared for the children is of high standards just as they were taught the previous year in Dambai.
“You are all mothers and I expect you to give these children, food that you will give to your children at home”, she said during her interaction with the caterers.
The Coordinator advised the caterers to be guided by laid down rules of their work and always ensure that wholesome meals are prepared and served under hygienic conditions for the students.
She iterated that the health of beneficiary students is paramount and should not be compromised in any way.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Achibald Yao Letsa was impressed with the work of the programme and urged the caterers to attach a high level of importance to it.
Deputy Regional Minister, Pastor Johnson Avuletey noted that it is important that students, especially the girls take their lessons seriously since the issue of food had been covered by the government.
Heads of the various schools visited were grateful for the timely intervention by the government to provide food for the final years as they prepare for their final exams
The Volta Regional School Feeding coordinator, Rejoice Afi Adzagbo was impressed with the cooperation of the caterers and urged them to do more.
Some of the students who spoke to Joy News said there were happy about the quality of the food being provided, adding it would go a long way to help them concentrate on their studies.
President Nana Akufo Addo, in his 15th address to the nation, ordered that final year students be given one hot meal a day to help them prepare for their final examination
