Transport Minister Mike Hammah has directed the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to speed up approval for the construction of a chemical plant at the Takoradi Port.
The plant is said to be crucial for the maintenance of the Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading Vessel or FPSO which will be used in the crude oil production later this year.
The vessel is expected to arrive in Ghana in July and Tullow Oil, one of the partners in the Jubilee Oil Field says the country stands to lose a great deal if the plant is not in place by the time the FPSO arrives.
Mike Hammah who was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show after a visit to the Takoradi port over the weekend says he expects the approval to be granted within a week.
"If the lease agreement was not completed within a couple of weeks we stand the risk of losing $1 million every month.
"It is on the strength of that I ordered that whatever it takes to conclude the lease agreement they should do it.,” he said.
