National Service is a transit from campus to the real world; very soon we will lay down our tools as National Service personnel to face the reality of the world. This is what has made most personnel to be thinking of how they are going to battle with the jobless life after service since the employment market is already choked with unemployed graduates leading to the formation of the Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana.
There are lots of frustrations graduates go through after school when they become unemployed which sometimes lead to attempting and committing suicide.
Not long ago, outside the boarders of our country, Buazi in Tunisia set himself ablaze because he was unemployed and the unemployment crises in the country was out of hands and no government official was ready to listen to him anytime he complains. This led to the historic revolution in the ARAB world.
London also had its fair share with the violent demonstration by the unemployed young folks which led to lots of injuries and destruction of public property in their country.
America was not left out with the occupants of the Wall Street.
This is what frustrated unemployed youths can do when they are fed up with life and deceit from our politicians.
I would therefore like to plead with government to make National Service a place of helping encourage, train and equip graduates who want to establish their own businesses after service in order to help reduce the frustration graduates go through after service to the nation.
We are also appealing to the government to hasten plans with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Training the Finance Minister made mention of in the 2012 budget to help train and equip more graduates to help solve the graduate unemployed problem in the country.
I strongly believe Entrepreneurship is the only way we can collectively help solve the unemployment problem in the country.
This is the step America took and created over 5million jobs in two and half years which drastically brought down their unemployment rate.
The only thing that has made Americans different from us is how they are taught to create wealth for themselves and their country while we are taught to rely on the government for jobs.
They strongly believe the only way to solve their unemployment problem is by the government giving its graduates required skills, equipments, soft loans and grants to establish themselves entrepreneurially, but we are taught to write good applications.
I personally believe it is time to turn our unemployment system into reemployment system through Entrepreneurship to put our graduate to work.
Government may do its part but we the individuals also need to be determined and make use of the support the government will give us so that together we can build a better Ghana full of employment opportunities.
