The second phase of the Kejetia redevelopment project in Kumasi has delayed due to traders refusal to relocate from the central market.
This, according to Chairman of the Kumasi City Market Projects Nana Agyenim Boateng, is worrying as funds for the project have been released since February 2020 awaiting commencement of work.
“Let the people know the cost and effect of these things when people are littering around the streets and pavements,” he told Luv FM's Prince Appiah.
President Akufo-Addo in May 2019 cut sod for the commencement of phase two of the project and the provision of associated infrastructure.
But, this is yet to see the light of day as traders have refused to relocate.
According to Mr Agyenim Boateng, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in consultation with “these affected traders visited the sites of Abentsi, Railways and Racecourse. We’ve got the places ready to move in.”
“They told us they will move after the elections, now we done we election yet they are not moving.”
He revealed this when the city authorities engaged stakeholders in what they call the Let-The-People Know campaign.
