The total value of mobile money accounts held with commercial banks ending June this year witnessed a significant increase.
Its value now stands at GH¢3 billion compared to GH¢2.1 billion for the same period last year.
The statistics released by the Bank of Ghana covered entire mobile money payments and electronic transactions over the last seven years.
The data showed that the value of mobile money transactions was GH¢140 billion ending June 2019, compared to GH¢104 billion for the same period in last year.
When it came to the total Mobile Money accounts in the country, the Bank of Ghana puts the value at GH¢12.9 million ending June this year, up by 9 per cent.
Active mobile money agents also stood at 180 000 for the first half of 2018, representing a 4 per cent jump.
Total Mobile Voice Subscriptions based on figures from the National Communication Authority (NCA) was GH¢40.9 billion.
On Mobile Number Interoperability, as at the first half of this year, GH¢2.7 billion transactions have been carried out on this new platform, value end at GH¢217 million.
Based on the Bank of Ghana Data, the value of E-Zwich transaction for the first half of this year was GH¢2.5 billion, however, this represents a slight decline from what it recorded for same half of 2018.
The total number of E-Zwich Cards issued ending June this year also stood at 2.8 million.
