Brazil's preparations for World Cup 2014 have been hit by further turmoil after a supporter was killed by a toilet bowl thrown from the stands during a second division match between Santa Cruz and Parana.
The incident occurred at the Arruda Stadium on Saturday in one of the tournament's host cities Recife, where over 40 supporters were arrested following the outbreak of fighting between the two sets of rival fans.
It is believed that three toilet bowls were ripped from the walls of the stadium's restrooms and hurled from the crowd, with one of those hitting Brazilian Ricardo Gomes da Silva and killing him instantly.
Just six weeks remain before the World Cup kicks off in Brazil, but there are fears the country is under-prepared to host a competition of such magnitude.
This latest tragedy comes on the back of the deaths of several workers killed as they rushed to finalise the completion of a number of the nation's venues.
Recife will play host to five matches during World Cup 2014, though none will be played at Arruda Stadium. The arena has been closed until an investigation has been concluded.
