Top 10 African scorers in Europe’s top five Leagues so far

Victor Osimhen scored 26 goals in the 2022/23 Italian Serie A season for Napoli, the highest by an African in Europe’s top five leagues. This was en route to Napoli’s historic Scudetto - the club's first since 1992.

The Nigerian led the charts with 10 more goals than Senegal’s Boulaye Dia, who scored 16 in Serie A for Salernitana, the second-highest by an African in the top five leagues.

The 2023/24 season, however, has started with a shift, with the Bundesliga leading the way for Africa's top scorers in the top five leagues.

  1. Serhou Guirassy

Stuttgart have stunned pundits to second on the Bundesliga table, and Guirassy has played a big role in their charge.

The Guinean international has 13 goals, representing 59 per cent, of the total goals scored by Die Roten in their league campaign. The striker now leads Europe for most goals scored this season.

  1. Victor Boniface

He has been the toast of Bayer Leverkusen; the Nigerian has scored seven Bundesliga goals and set up two more this season for Xavi Alonso’s side. Bayer are top of the league and Boniface’s goals have been the catalyst.

  1. Victor Osimhen

His goals last season clinched the title for Napoli, but it's been a bit quiet so far. The Partenopei have had a slow start, but Osimhen’s goals have not dried. Six in eight is a very decent return, and he's just warming up.

  1. Simon Banza

The DR Congo star has a club-high six league goals in the Liga Portugal this season for Sporting Braga. Banza has already got half of his league goal tally from last season in just eight games.

  1. Mohamed Salah

A man who has hit fine form for Liverpool this season, scoring five and assisting four so far.
The Egyptian forward nicked two goals against Brighton in the first half as they drew 2-2 in Liverpool's last game. Salah ranks fifth amongst African scorers in Europe's top five leagues.

  1. Inaki Williams

The goal dilemma he's facing with the Black Stars is not quite the same at club level.

Bilbao, where he operates as a right winger or forward, is where the 29-year-old has scored four goals.

  1. Bryan Mbuemo

The Cameroonian has started every game for Brentford this term, signalling his importance to the team, especially in the absence of the banned Ivan Toney.

With four Premier League goals from this season's eight games, Mbeumo could have a breakout season if he keeps up this scoring rate.

  1. Abdoulaye Doucoure

He is not your typical goal scorer, but when the opportunity pops up, the 30-year-old has shown he can take a chance or two.

His box-to-box role under Sean Dyche at Everton has seen him score three Premier League goals.

  1. Taiwo Awoniyi

A man proving to be a talisman for Nottingham Forest, he is probably the main reason they did not get relegated in the last Premier League season, chipping in eight goals.

This season, he has just three so far.

  1. Lyle Foster

The Bafana star is the man for Vincent Kompany in the Premier League. In his first Premier League season, the three goals chalked signal a burgeoning star to watch.
