The people of Tokpo-Osudoku in the Dangme West District have appealed to the government to intervene to check vandalism and provocation between them and the people of Mafi to prevent a possible ethnic strife.
Nene Tetteh Mineh Animle 11, Tokpo-Osudoku Matse, said at a peace durbar on Sunday that it was important that government put in measures to avert a possible clash between the two ethnic groups.
Nene Tetteh Mineh Animle said vandalizing of properties by tenants from Mafi who have settled on some portion of the Osudoku lands was disturbing.
He called on investors to enquire from the Lands Commission about ownership to avoid the acquisition of disputed land.
Throwing light on the significance of the peace durbar, he said it was identical to the ancient religious norms of the land during which they renewed their covenants to rebuild the aboriginal shrine of the Topko-Kpoo.
He said the durbar was to instil in the people the responsibility of praying for peace, unity, prosperity and good health.
The chief called on the people to bury their differences and unite in their quest to develop their community that lacks water, electricity, good school and health centre among other necessities of life.
Nene Tetteh Mineh Animle appealed to his colleague chiefs to take up their responsibility of ensuring peace and tranquillity as well as the sense of communal labour.
Ex Warrant Officer Class One (WOI) Richard Nixon Tetteh, who said he would contest the elections as an independent presidential candidate, called on Ghanaians to always seek peace over chaos.
He said peace and unity were the greatest force behind the development of any nation and called on all politicians to promote peace during this year's election
