The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the NDC, Edem Agbana, has confirmed that the former President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, has never been a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This is to refute claims that Togbe Afede is an NDC member and helps the party in decision-making.
Explaining to Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning on Monday, Edem Agbana asserted that Togbe Afede criticizes every government’s policy.
"Togbe is a very venerable member of society. What I know is that he’s not a member of the NDC. Togbe has been very critical of all governments. He’s also served in almost all governments in this fourth republic. Togbe worked under President Kuffuor, he worked under President Mills, and he was a board member under the NDC…So, I don’t know where this theory of Togbe Afede being an NDC is coming from," he stated.
The Deputy Youth Organiser said the status of Togbe Afede will not permit him, as traditional leaders are not allowed to be involved in politics.
Recently, Togbe Afede suggested the reintroduction of the road toll, with the view that the amount paid should be increased.
Prior to Togbe’s contribution, the Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Hajia Rabi Salifu, alleged that the Chief is a member of the NDC.
According to her, "Same NDC, same party member coming out to say not even bring it back, but rather increase it, and that is Togbe Afede. "For me, because of his objectivity and not being typical of an NDC man, that is why they always come back and beat him up or give him out," she said.
She strongly believes the NDC is not a better alternative considering the internal challenges exhibited at the party's has been facing for the past few days during their delegate conference.
She stipulated that the NPP is a listening government and is efficiently working towards the positive growth of the country.
