A group of unidentified thugs in the Northern Region have raided the Buffer Stock Company warehouse, stealing over 150 bags of maize and other foodstuffs intended for Senior High Schools (SHS) in the region.
According to JoyNews correspondent, Martina Bugri, approximately 15 schools are expected to be affected by this theft.
She noted that only three schools had picked up their consignment before the items were stolen.
Since December 8, these thugs have continued to loot warehouses belonging to various institutions across the Northern Region.
JoyNews gathered that this is the second time these looters have targeted the warehouse.
Several warehouses, including those of the Tamale Metro Assembly, the Department of Agriculture, and the Veterinary Service, have also been raided, with food, agricultural chemicals, and fertilizers stolen in the aftermath of the elections.
These incidents had subsided last week, only for the thugs to invade the Buffer Stock warehouse again last night.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Headmaster of Ghana Senior High School, Douglas Haruna Yakubu, expressed concern that this theft would worsen the food shortage already anticipated by the schools.
The Coordinator for Free Senior High School in the Northern Region, Bukari Dahmani, raised the alarm that this could delay the reopening of schools unless the government intervenes immediately.
Warehouse Supervisor for Buffer Stock, Alhassan Salifu, explained that the looters first carted food meant for the Tamale Metro Assembly before stealing the food designated for the students.
