Three thousand Civil Servants are to be re-assigned to the local Government Service where their services are needed most, Nana Boakye Dankwa, Chairman of the Local Government service said on Wednesday.
This he said was in accordance with the decentralisation system that would put some departments of decentralised ministries at the District, Municipal and Metropolitan levels.
Nana Boakye Dankwa, who was speaking to Civil Servants in Bolgatanga, said decentralization was important to the development of the country and that every district would have 11 departments while a municipality would get 13 and metropolitan assemblies got 15 departments.
Those departments he said would no longer depend on their headquarters offices in Accra, as the districts and regions would be strengthened to handle all the responsibilities.
“The Regions and Districts must lead the country to achieve the Millennium Goals in record time and I will make sure that we render services to the people where it is needed no matter where”, he said.
Nana Boakye Dankwa urged all civil and public servants to condition their minds to the new system and to accept postings to the places they would be sent to saying: “If you cannot work in any part of Ghana, it means you cannot work. When you refuse to go to a place you see as a village, who else would you expect to go there?”
He urged the workers to give the Regional Ministers and their Deputies the support that they needed to work to develop the regions.
Mrs Agnes A. Chigabatia, Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, commended workers in the Region and urged them to work harder and to exploit the full potential of the Region.
