A suspected Nigerian fraudster and his two Ghanaian accomplices have been arrested by the Madina Police for defrauding a building contractor.
The three are Tsezama Valentine aka Diallo Kamara, 42; a tailor and resident of Makebe in Togo, David Aklade aka Stephen, 35; a mason and resident of Brecheley, a suburb of Tema and Kofi Owusu, 30, a house boy and resident of Madina in Accra.
The three were alleged to have defrauded Stephen Kumi Tawiah, a building contractor, of GH¢2,000 to execute a building construction contract.
The contractor became suspicious when they demanded additional GH¢15,000 to enable them commence the project.
Narrating the story to Daily Guide, Madina Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent Amos K. Yelisong, said on December 2, 2011, the three, who had been monitoring the contractor and had succeeded in gathering enough information about him, contacted him for a building contract.
The suspects made him believe that a certain white man had won a housing contract in the country and wanted partners as the contract was too big for him.
The suspects, according to DSP Yelisong, made the complainant believe that they were contractors themselves and had been approached by the white man.
They also convinced the complainant that before they could commence the project, he had to bring GH¢2,000.
After collecting the money, the suspects called the complainant the following morning and demanded an additional GH¢15,000 to enable them commence the project, an action that made the complaint suspicious and as a result reported the case to the police.
The victim led the policemen to the hideout of the three suspects and the police caused the arrest of the suspects when they attempted to collect the GH¢15,000 from the complainant.
DSP Yelisong said the police, during a search at the suspects’ hideout, found US$9,000 fake currency, an ash box loaded with papers and sawdust.
“The fake dollars had at that time been spread to cover the box, making it to look like a box full of dollars”.
