Personnel from Kade Police have arrested three men for allegedly stealing equipment belonging to the National Identification Authority (NIA) from a registration centre at Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District in the Eastern Region.
The equipment included a laptop computer, digital camera, fingerprint sensor printer, signature pad and electronic pen.
The suspects are, Kwasi Tawiah 22, a mason, Evans Kwei 24 and Emmanuel Amoah 25 both traders.
A fourth suspect, Issah is on the run.
Police Superintendent Wisdom Akorli, Kade District Police Commander, told GNA that on October 1, registration officials at Asuom Presbyterian Church centre at the end of the day’s work, left the box containing the equipment safely locked up in the church premises.
However, when they returned the next morning to resume registration, the box had disappeared.
Mr Akorli said the Chief of Asuom beat the gong gong for information on the whereabouts of the box and arrest of the suspects.
He said an informant hinted the Chief that he saw the suspects carrying some equipment during the night from Asuom to nearby Abaam to board a vehicle to Accra to sell them.
Police Superintendent Akorli said the youth of Asuom mobilised to lay ambush, arrested Tawiah with the laptop computer and the digital camera at the outskirts of Asuom on the Asuom-Abaam road.
He said Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, when informed about the theft joined the police and Tawiah to locate the stolen box in the bush and he named his accomplices.
