Just off the M2 highway, between the concrete buildings and warehouses along Eloff Street Extension, you’ll spot some palm trees. And it’s definitely worth stopping to investigate
The spa, inspired by the temples of ancient Egypt, forms part of the inner-city rejuvenation of Johannesburg.
From the architecture to the design and décor, every effort has been made to create an atmosphere that exudes the opulence of ancient Egypt. Hieroglyphics and Egyptian patterns are used throughout, and great attention has been given to the ceilings, which spa aficionadas spend so much time contemplating during treatments.
The Pyramid Day Spa has a lavish treatment menu that matches the setting. Make your way up 1 of the narrow, winding stairways to unwind in the Dead Sea Float of Ankhet; soak up the nutrients of natural clay in the Rasul of Aah; or indulge in 1 of the spa’s signature treatments.
The Journey to Hathor, for example, is a 90-minute, full-body treatment that will renew flagging energy levels. It begins with an invigorating exfoliation, followed by a massage with Egyptian silk, and then an ‘embalming’ with moisturising butter. Finally, you are brought back to reality from your blissful state through pressure and rocking movements.
In addition to the spa packages, the menu offers a range of facials, massages, tinting and nail and make-up applications.
Afterwards, take a moment to unwind with light refreshments in the fragrant sanctuary of the Garden of Zeb before heading back out to explore the rest of the city.
