The NPP political romance

Relationships wear thin over time. That is why some happily married couples soon turn themselves into boxers and go toe-to-toe to resolve very minor domestic problems. Once in a while the man loses the fight by technical knockout. Some women, especially the southpaws, can really throw hefty punches. The Domestic Violence staff will tell you that more men are now reporting their wives for thrashing them. Sometimes the fight starts when the man is hopelessly drunk and cannot stand upright to deliver punches, He, therefore, becomes a punching bag and by the time the woman is through with him, he can only crawl. The next day, he is sure to go on hunger strike. In some marriages, it is better to divorce than hope for reconciliation. Some differences are irreconcilable and efforts must not be wasted to reconcile perpetual warring couple. It is a waste of time. In pre-marital situations, it becomes easier to deal with relationships that have outlived their usefulness. A simple text message to your girlfriend is all it takes to end the relationship. "It's over! Go with your too-know." Jerry Rawlings has lately popularised the use of text messages in dismissing undesirables. I am pretty sure presidents will also start reshuffling by text messages. The chief of staff only has to text: "Tomorrow morning, kindly pack out and head for your hometown. Leave your office key with the security." Life is a two-way palaver. You leave some lovers and some lovers leave you. When some particular lovers leave you, it really hurts. Some men have refused food for days on end and grown leaner than Zimbabwean prisoners. Some girls have ended in clinic claiming their hearts have not been broken but shattered. They can show you the pieces on their face. There is the other way to this. Some ladies leave their men and surprisingly the men go partying. You would wonder why! Of course, the ladies have outlived their. usefulness and have become good riddance. So when they leave, you celebrate with a glass of red wine. If you are a fan of Ogidigidi, all the better. Now, relationships can break and later get mended. It happens in social life and politics, even in churches or business. Breakaways have resulted in a cornucopia of churches we have today. Nothing wrong about it though if the motive for breaking away is not monetary, to give the impression that churches are for business and not for soul-saving. In politics, people break away for various reasons. Some think their stomachs are not being properly catered for. Others because they want to carve their own political paths either to glory or to doom. Dr Nkrumah, for instance, decided he could no longer be bedfellows with other UGCC members. It was a risk he took, but of course, a calculated risk. Sikaman has seen other celebrated breakaways like UNC that broke away from PFP to provide an easy ride for a previously unknown Dr Limann to walk almost effortlessly into the Castle. Ghanaians have also been entertained by guys like Inusah who left the Kufuor campaign team and allegedly returned, to do what? We have also known the likes of Guzzi Tanor and Peter Kpordugbe who formed the National Reform Party that ended in electoral tragedy. Dr Obed Asamoah's DFP is another and I think Bede Ziedeng and others should just return where they left the umbilical. Today, the shocker of all shockers is ALAN KYEREMATEN who recently called it quits. He talks about harassment of his supporters, but I know for sure that there must be other reasons. We can only wait and see. But if I were Akufo-Addo I would seek reconciliation with this man. Dr Kwesi Jonah made a very poor analysis of it. According to him, the records show that people have left parties but that had very insignificant impact on the fortunes of the deserted parties. It is not only about statistics and concluding that history will repeat itself. The honourable lecturer who once taught Political Economy did not state why those who left failed to make any considerable impact. He also failed to acknowledge that people are different qualitatively. Some might leave and it will not even be noticed. Others will leave and that will cause a cataclysm, believe it or not. When Dr Nkrumah broke ranks with the UGCC, that party had a hard time in Ghana politics and later changed its name. When the UNC was formed out of the PFP, that ended the dreams of both factions. With Alan Kyerematen, it could be anything. People are already talking about the Asante-Akyem polarisatian. Others are talking about the financial contributions the man would have made if he had not quit. Still, some are, talking about his clout, popularity and even his financial backers and alleged affiliation to the President. Should such a man be left off? I am sure Professor Atta Mills is at his smiling best! When your political foes are fumbling you can only wish that God will give them all the energy to-continue in that disastrous pursuit. After all, who is not interested in the Flagstaff House? The Castle has long been out of fashion. Nkrumah's Flagstaff House is the new political attraction. Slowly but surely, the journey to the Flagstaff House is getting near. Source: Merari Alomele/The Spectator Email: merarix2001@yahoo.co.uk
