Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste, Samini has said that he is able to put up good performances even when he is going through personal problems.
He told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces on Wednesday that once he sees the microphone, he gets elevated into a world where all his problems are consigned to oblivion.
According to him, the mind is the biggest weapon but it depends on how it is used.
“I have a creative box and nothing negative goes in there. So when it is time to prepare for an appearance or studio recording, and I am in that box, whatever is coming has its barriers. You can’t get to me until I complete.
Naturally, if I am going through a regular day to day activity and stress, the moment the microphone is given to me, and I hear the band play, it is a different energy,” he noted.
He said everybody that plays a role in a performance has personal issues but once they mount the stage, they let go all the negative energy and get into a ecstatic mood.
Asked if he gets worried about the likelihood of repeating his performances on different shows, he said he usually would want to add some dynamics to his performances so he doesn’t sound monotonous.
“Sometimes as an artiste, you yearn for some change, something new, something spectacular. So that whoever has been to maybe one or two of your performances get a wow factor,” he noted.
Samini added that with or without an audience, he always makes sure his stagecraft is topnotch.
“It is not really about how many people are in there or how charged they are. It’s about how I can get them to feel before they leave the auditorium,” he noted.
He further explained that sometimes an artiste goes to places where nobody knows them, when they are called to mount the stage, they don’t get the regular huge chant they usually get in their comfort zones but the artiste still needs to deliver.
He made this comment while discussing how to harness artistes’ stagecraft on ‘Joy Entertainment Unpacked’, Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces show hosted by Kwame Dadzie.
Other personalities on the panel were Kobi Rana (artiste) Freeman Daniel Ame (Voice Coach), Austine Woode (broadcaster) and Kofi Boachie-Ansah Beatmenace (audio engineer).
