Former England international and Leicester City legend Gary Lineker has lavished praise on Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, calling him a "special kid" after the 19-year-old’s impressive display in Leicester City’s thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Southampton.
Fatawu came off the bench with Leicester trailing 2-0 and immediately made an impact, providing the assist that ignited the Foxes’ remarkable turnaround.
The Ghanaian winger's energy and skill were evident, as he recorded seven touches in the opposition box – more than any other player on the pitch.
He hit the crossbar with a belter before his header that almost drew Steve Cooper's men parity earned a penalty that was converted by Jamie Vardy to make it 2-2 before Jordan Ayew scored a 97th minute winner to complete the comeback.
Lineker, a lifelong Leicester fan, couldn't hide his admiration for Fatawu's performance. Speaking about the young talent on BBC's Match of the Day, he said, "What a comeback. What a win.
"The game really changed when Abdul Fatawu came on. As a Leicester fan, my kids follow Leicester as well. Every time we see the teamsheet and he's not in it, we go, 'oh no, not again. Why is he not playing? This kid is special.'"
Fatawu’s influence in the match has raised questions about why he hasn’t been a more consistent feature in the starting lineup, given the spark he provides when introduced.
His assist and attacking presence helped the Foxes complete a memorable victory, further cementing his growing reputation in English football.
