What would you do if you were awakened in the middle of the night by the 77 gods of Cape Coast? That was the predicament recounted by the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa traditional area.
Speaking exclusively to Super Morning Show host, Kojo Yankson in the run-up to the 60th Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations in September, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II asserted that his role as a chief meant he was known to the 77 gods of Cape Coast.
The Fante monarch recounted an eerie experience when he was visited at night, by the spirits of his traditional land, who had a complaint about the state of their shrine.
“I was asleep one day, around 11pm, 12 thereabouts, and I heard a knock at my door. I got up, opened the gate. The question I was being asked by the spirit... if it rains, does the rain fall on me? I said no. (He asked) why have I left him to be where he is with the rain beating him?"
Asked how he handled this supernatural complaint, the Oguaamanhen said, "I had to apologise, and, the following day, I had to call the Supi (Asafo Leader) for us to go and put something - a covering - on where he (the spirit) is."

Osabarima called for all Ghanaians to reconnect with traditional beliefs, highlighting the natural link which he says has always existed between Ghanaians and our ancestors, stating that they are all around us.
