It was with considerable sadness that we the Network of Journalists for the Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa (PROMOAFRICA), with the disability community in Ghana, heard H.E Prof. John Evans Atta Mill’s death. He passed away peacefully aged 68 years on 24th July 2012, at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Members of PROMOAFRICA and the disability community have reason to be very grateful to him, as Prof. Mills is on record to be the first Ghanaian and African leader to have a face to face meeting with the disability community before his 100 days in office. The disability community will be forever grateful to him because the first board he inaugurated when he became president of Ghana was the National Council on Person with Disability. It was him (Prof. Mills) who speedup the process for Ghana to ratify the United Nation Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability and the historic passage of the Ghana Mental Health Law, all within a space of one week. Prof. Mills’ dedication and humble leadership is unprecedented in the political history of this country, as he always celebrates his birthdays with the disability schools across Ghana. Prof Mills with H.E John Dramani Mahama were a remarkable team that made a difference in our lives. To us Prof Mills will be remembered as a man who blended research, theory, and humanitarian concern with day-to-day support and care. He will be dearly missed by the immediate family, the good people of Ghana and admirers of the National Democratic Congress NDC, May His Soul Rest in Perfect Peace! Seth Amoah Kwaku Addi President, PROMOAFRICA
