Pupils of the Breman D/A Basic School in the Asikuma Odobeng-Brakwa District of the Central Region have expressed their gratitude over the construction of a new modern classroom block being built for them.
When completed, the new school building, being constructed under the Multimedia Group’s Classroom Project, will be roomier and have supporting academic facilities.
Speaking to JoyNews, some pupils noted that the classroom block will prevent parents from sending their children to schools in neighbouring communities because of the dangerous nature of the existing ones.
“I am very happy now and hope this block will be very nice. Some of the people in my village are transferring their children to some private schools here. Maybe when they see that this building is coming back, they will transfer their children to this school.”

“I only wish for them to help to finish this school early because I want to sit in this school to learn. I am very excited about the new structure being put up. There are ICT and Science laboratories, and also we’d feel comfortable,” some of them said.

The three-unit classroom block is 50% complete. Over 300 children will be moved into the new structure upon completion.
The current structure is very weak and unsafe for academic work. The progress of work gives hope to the dreams of these children and the entire community.

Project Supervisor and hydraform expert, Samuel Kofi Agbenyega, gives further detail on the component of the structure.

“It is going to be a beautiful class hydraform structure which is fireproof, earthquake resistant, and the kids will be comfortable because the rooms are spacious. We had to stick strictly to the GES structure.”
“We gave them three big classrooms and gave them a library/ICT, a head teacher’s office and a staff common room.”

The Classroom Project
The Multimedia Group’s Classroom Project is under a bigger continental project called ‘Giving for Change’ (GfC). It is being implemented in Ghana by the STAR Ghana Foundation in partnership with the West Africa Civil Society Institute with funding from the Dutch Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The objective is to explore philanthropy for development at the community level without depending on the central government. The Classroom Project is supported by the Israeli Embassy, Forestry Commission, The Planned City Extension Project, DBS Roofing Sheets and cherished audiences of the Multimedia Group Limited.
