Tension mounts at National Service Secretariat

The chief accountant and the entire staff of the accounts department of the National Service Secretariat have resigned in protest of the dismissal of an accounts officer by the acting executive director, Vincent Senam Kuagbenu. The resignation is building up tension at the Secretariat with the resigned staff accusing the acting director of employing intimidating, authoritarian and insulting leadership styles. When Asempa News visited the National Office of the National Service Secretariat early on Wednesday afternoon, the mood and demeanor of the workforce was nothing to write home about. In a chat with the Public Relations Officer of the NSS, Ferdinand Obeng, he disclosed that a petition had been sent to the office of the President on the 18th of September and copied to the Chief of Staff as well as the Minister of Education among other persons which has not been responded to. A copy of the petition sighted by Asempa News speaks of an impending explosion as a result of the managerial and administrative style of the Executive Director. The entire members of the accounts staff numbering five and including the Chief Accountant, William Zoogah have tendered in their resignation in support of Osei Kwadwo James, a staff of the department who was sacked by the acting director for allegedly failing to carry out his instructions. Some members of staff who spoke to Asempa News on condition of anonymity complained of constant threats of dismissal received at the hands of Vincent Senam Kuagbenu even when there is no wrong committed. They disclosed that early on this week, another member of staff was dismissed for no apparent reason. Later in a chat with the resigned Chief Accountant, William Zoogah on their next line of action, he disclosed that until the acting Executive Director Vincent Senam Kuagbenu is reassigned, taken through a crush management programme at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration [GIMPA] and or dismissed, their decision remains standing. An emergency meeting of heads of department and general staff has been called to press home their demand for the removal of the Executive Director. Vincent Kuagbenu, the acting Executive Director of the Service Scheme declined comment. Kojo Asare-Baffour Acheampong Asempa 94.7FM
