The Central Regional Security Council has decided to maintain police and military patrol teams at Agona Swedru until absolute calm returns to the area.
Two people died and several others were injured when violence broke out between indigenes of Agona Swedru and members of the Zongo community.
At a news conference on Wednesday the Agona Swedru Traditional Council asked indigenes of the town to cut business ties and other relations with the Zongo community.
The council is hoping the measure will restore calm to the Swedru township.
But after bloody clashes between the Zongo community and the indigenes the need for greater security presence has heightened.
The incident destroyed so many property and resulted in the deployment of police and military in the Swedru township.
The incident has strained relationship between leaders of the two sides. This would include stopping people from the Zongo community from patronizing their services, ban them from attending traditional functions and ban the Zongo chief from traditional council meetings.
The situation has brought about an uneasy calm in the town, reports say.
Meanwhile the Central Regional Minister and head of the Regional Security Council, Ama Benyiwa Doe, in consultation with the council has set up “a high-powered committee” to investigate the violence and bring the perpetrators behind the violence to book.
But for want of absolute peace, security will be tight with regular patrols through the town.
