The Director-General in charge of operations of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Jonathan Yakubu, has hinted that the police will intensify patrols both mobile and foot, especially in the Tema Municipality.
This has been necessitated by recent crimes reported in the municipality and to assure the public of their safety before, during and after the Golden Jubilee celebration.
DCOP Yakubu said this after the IGP, Interior Minister, Service Commanders and some members of the security committee held a closed door meeting to find ways of curbing crime in the municipality.
DCP Yakubu appealed to the public to supplement the efforts of the police by providing vital information about criminals in their respective communities.
Albert Kan Dapaah, Interior Minister, urged the police to forge ahead at all times and ensure that law and order prevails in the municipality regardless of lack of logistics.
According to him, statistics suggest that crime rate is going down in the municipality but that is not the perception people have.
He therefore called on the security agencies to adopt strategies to bring it to the barest minimum since most monies accured for the state coffers come from Tema.
The Municipal Chief Executive, David Quaye Annang, expressed his profound gratitude to the IGP and Interior Minister for their quick response to the crime problem in the municipality and assured them that the assembly would also do its best to do what is expected to bring sanity into the municipality.
