The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at Tema in the Greater Accra region collected over GH¢7.9 billion as import duty in the first quarter of 2025.
This is a significant increase of more than 43% in tax revenue over the same period last year, Sector Commander, Assistant Commissioner Theresa Potakey revealed.
“From the beginning of this new year, we have already collected GH¢7.9 billion while awaiting our target for the year”.
“This figure, as compared to revenue collected during the same period last year, is in excess of 43.22%. We are committed to working tirelessly to achieve our target and exceed it”, she assured.
Theresa Potakey was speaking to officials of the Division when the Acting Commissioner General, Anthony Sarpong, paid a visit to the Tema collection to encourage the team to work hard to support domestic revenue mobilisation.

Last year, the Tema Customs Division was tasked to collect 82.09% of the Customs target. It made a significant contribution to the national revenue by collecting a total of GH¢36.86 bn, thereby exceeding its revenue target by 8.6%.
Theresa Potakey requested more resources in order to do more to raise revenue for the state.
“Based on the fact that the Tema Customs is responsible for generating almost all of Customs revenue, I must respectfully state that the collection needs to be better resourced”, she added
The Customs Division at Tema has this year been given a minimum target of GH¢60 billion from the overall revenue target of more than GH¢200 billion.
The collection at the Tema port is a critical to the country’s revenue drive due to the port operations.
