The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board has made revisions to the 2024 nominations list following a review prompted by feedback from various stakeholders.
Concerns about errors or omissions in the list, which was initially announced in March 2024, led to this comprehensive review process.
In a press release issued by the show's organisers, Charterhouse, it was disclosed that the board evaluated all submissions and made corrections to two entries: Lonely Road by O'Kenneth & Xlim Kid and Kwaku Ananse by Amerado.
Regarding "Lonely Road," nominated in the Collaboration of the Year category, Charterhouse clarified that the song was originally submitted as a featured work.
However, the management of both artists confirmed that "Lonely Road" was a joint project by O'Kenneth and Xlim Kid, not a featured track.
"The Board noted this and has thus corrected the nomination to reflect Lonely Road, by O'Kenneth and Xlim Kid," the statement read.
In the case of rapper Amerado, his song Kwaku Ananse garnered an additional nomination in the Most Popular Song of the Year category following the review.
Furthermore, the original version of the song replaced the remix for consideration in the Best Highlife Song award.
Charterhouse explained that “the Board considered and nominated 'Kwaku Ananse' remix in the Best Highlife Song category instead of the song's original version. This affected the song's consideration in the Most Popular Song of the Year category.”
“The Board has reviewed this and consequently nominated 'Kwaku Ananse by Amerado to replace the remix version in the Best Highlife Category. The song has also been nominated in the Most Popular Song of the Year Category,” the statement read.
The board assured all stakeholders of their commitment to ensuring fairness in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards and thanked them for their, not just in the scheme, but also in the recent window of errors and omissions.
“Once again, congratulations to all nominees for their outstanding work in 2023. We wish each nominee the best of luck at the 25th-anniversary edition of the TGMA in the coming weeks.”
