The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says the nationwide power outage experienced on Sunday is due to a technical fault on one of the major transmission lines between Prestea and Obuasi.
In its latest updates, GRIDCo in a press statement dated Monday explained that this issue with the Prestea-Obuasi transmission line led to "overloads on other adjacent transmission lines," resulting in the "eventual power system shutdown in the country."
At approximately 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 7, the country experienced a nationwide power shortage resulting in many distress calls by Ghanaians.
However, Ghana Grid Company Limited after an assurance to resolve the issue, through its technical team restored power to all Bulk Supply Points (BSP) by 6:30 pm the same day.
Meanwhile, GRIDCo has given the assurance that there is enough power generated to meet the country's demand.
"All relevant stakeholders in the power sector value chain will also continue to work to ensure consistency of supply to Ghanaians," the statement concluded.
