Government is keen on putting technical education on the same pedestal as secondary education in order to build a solid manpower base for an all-round development of the country.
Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, said this at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday for work to begin on a 12-unit two-storey classroom block, which formed the first phase of a proposed Secondary Technical Senior High School for the Weta Traditional Area at Dekpor Junction.
The first phase estimated to cost 360,000 Ghana Cedis would be completed within three months to be followed by the second and final phases comprising of administration and science blocks, staff quarters, dining hall and boarding facilities to be completed within three years.
Mr Dzamesi said the latest education review was to ensure quality technical and science education that would maximize the impact of education sector in the short and long term development of the country.
He commended the chiefs of the area for persisting in their demands for the project, which would be the first Secondary Technical School in the newly created Ketu North district.
Mr Dzamesi said a second cycle school in the district would be developed into a model school and expressed the hope that parents would take advantage of the opportunities being created to get their children educated.
He said potable water would be extended to the Weta area next year should the New Patriotic Party be returned to power.
Togbui Ashiakpor III, Dufia of Weta appealed to government to open up the area by tarring the Metsrikasa/Weta/Afiadenyigba road.
