The Chemistry teacher of the Tamale Girls Senior High School (TAGISS), Mohammed Sadick, is in the firm grips of officials of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for allegedly raping a 16-year-old student of the school.
Mr. Sadick was alleged to have invited the victim (name withheld) into the school’s computer laboratory at about 7:00pm in view of its isolated nature and tried to have carnal knowledge of her.
His amorous sexual advances towards the 16-year-old student were resisted including his attempts to fondle the breasts and buttocks of his victim.
It was reported that he struggled and overpowered the girl and was sexually satisfying his libido on the bare floor, amidst wails from the student which attracted other students including the girls’ prefect, to the scene.
On reaching the ICT centre, the students caught their Chemistry Tutor in the act and reported the matter to the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Mercy Amanqqandoh, who in turn reported the matter to the Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education without notifying the police.
In an attempt by the Metropolitan Education Service to cover up the matter in connivance with the Metro Director of Education, a meeting was convened with the two parties to meet a disciplinary committee, after which the suspect was released for transfer.
The police, apparently worried over the GES officials’ attempt to meddle in a criminal case, which is the sole prerogative of the police, cautioned them and threatened legal action if they failed to forward the matter to the police for onward investigation and prosecution under Act 1960 (Act 29) section 97.
Both the suspect and the victim were therefore brought to the DOVVSU for interrogation, with the victim confirming the offence in her caution statement while the suspect’s caution statement was taken. He is currently in police custody.
Daily Guide learnt that this is not the first time the suspect has been engaged in such sexual escapades. He was released from Yendi Senior High School, his former duty post, for a similar offence which was swept under the carpet by authorities of the school, for obvious reasons.
But for the vigilance and swift intervention of the security agencies, this particular incident would have gone unnoticed.
